What is it like to be: Famous in a Small Town (by Viola Shipman)

#FamousinaSmallTown #NetGalley

Viola Shipman (surprisingly perhaps the pen name for a man) knows how to write the women’s fiction stories that readers crave. That streak is continued with this title.

Eighty year old Mary Jackson has run the general store in her small community. She is following a family tradition in doing so with a store that has been run by women for generations. Who will succeed her?

Becky Thatcher (hmm, isn’t that a name from Tom Sawyer?) comes to town. She is forty, just half Mary’s age. How will her life intersect with Mary’s?

The store is a hub for the community and the many folks who populate the story. Readers will wish that they could shop and eat there.

Shipman does an excellent job in creating a setting and characters whom readers will want to know. Recommended for women’s fiction lovers. By the way, watch out for the cherry pits!

There are so many: All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham

What would be a parent’s worst nightmare? This dreadful scenario comes true for Isabelle Drake. She went to sleep one night and woke up to find her toddler, Mason, gone. Readers can imagine how driven she will be to find out what happens.

It is not surprising that Isabelle is struggling. Ever since the night of sleep before her son’s disappearance, Isabelle has suffered from insomnia and feelings of desperation. Will it help or hurt when she agrees to be a guest on a podcast? What will be revealed as a result.

This novel is a page turner. No reader will want to go through what Isabelle has. They will hope that somehow things will work out but can they? Isabelle can’t sleep and readers may lose sleep themselves when they can’t put this one down.

Hop aboard for: Double Decker Dreams (by Lindsay Macmillan)

Here is a fun summer romance that is perfect for reading on a hot day at the beach or under one’s AC. Live in London? Check. Fall in love with the guy spotted on the bus? Hmm, will have to see. Have fantasies about who someone is? Yes. Are they correct? Read this one to find out.

This book’s London setting appealed to me. The romance was well played out and will keep readers guessing just enough.

This novel has received lots of praise.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Alcove Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

What is better than: All the Days of Summer (by Nancy Thayer)

#AlltheDaysofSummer #NetGalley

Every year I look forward to spending part of my spring/summer with a new novel by Nancy Thayer. Nantucket comes to life and women’s lives come to the fore in this author’s readable stories.

When Heather’s marriage ends, she begins to think about what she wants next. One thing is to rent a place in Nantucket for a time, so off she goes. A bit surprisingly to her, Heather’s son also comes to the island. His girlfriend lives there. How will they all get along? What changes will come to their lives? Read this enjoyable novel to find out.
