This alphabet book is intended to be fun for a baby but even more so for baby’s adult. Babies will see some adorable illustrations and fashion ABCs while adults will enjoy the sense of humor that permeates this title. For example, E is for evening wear shows a picture of a child’s slippers. New parents may well chuckle as they contemplate what evening wear might have once meant to them. The book is full of this kind of amusement and should bemuse new parents..

Read the book in order or browse.  Either way you will be rewarded as you learn more about how the science of thankfulness can “rewire our brains for resilience, optimism and the greater good.”

This collection of tales from the Greek myths includes so many well known stories. These retelling will be enjoyed by the intended audience of children and also, I think, by adults. Inside this book are the stories of Zeus, the Titans, Apollo, Athena, Demeter, Persephone, Prometheus, Midas and many more. There is also a final section called “About the Myths” which provides additional information.
The author begins by putting the myths in context. They were used by the ancient Greeks to help in understanding their world and, because of this they were essential. Not only were the stories a part of the oral tradition, they also appeared in art, theaters and more, thus revealing their importance in daily life.

The stories themselves are well told and accompanied by illustrations that enhance the text. The book looks engaging and encourages a reader to see what comes next.

This book should delight toddlers and preschoolers. With vivid, highly detailed illustrations and rhyming text (along with repetition), it reads quickly. Young children will enjoy their chaotic journey on this bus…and what happens at the end? Read this one to find out.

I confess that I have never read The Alchemist, although I am now more interested than I ever was.  For those who have read and loved that book, this title will be most welcome. The author was involved with the arrival of the book in Australia.  He also met the author and this led to a transformation in his life.  This life change is shared with the reader who may be encouraged to make their own changes.

Anthony Bourdain’s death left a void in the world of food adventure.  He has been mourned by many.  This book, however, provides a chance to celebrate Mr. Bourdain, the foods he ate and the places he went.  Starting with Argentina and progressing through the alphabet to Viet-Nam, this charmingly illustrated (with many line drawings) book offers riches to the reader. Fans of Mr. Bourdain will be excited to see this one.  Credit to Laurie Woolever who clearly helped enormously to get this book out.

A mix here.  When I read Mrs. Lewis, about C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidson, they spoke of reading books by George MacDoanld. His book is free today.  Enjoy.

I read and recommend The Gown, Oprhan Train and The Paris Wife.  The others look interesting as well.

I think that all of these are good choices.  I reviewed the Ellery Adams titles and have blogged on Dorothy Simpson and Donna Leon as well.
