For those who like their mysteries on the light side: The Stolen Letter A Scottish Bookshop Mystery by Paige Shelton

I was so delighted to receive this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher.  The book’s description led me to think that all that I look for in a cozy could be found here.  Location: check…Scotland.  Books: check…the protagonist owns a bookstore, although readers learn that is is imperiled.  Well, as you read, you just have to believe that it will work out since the book is part of a series.  Characters: Check…there is even one of those favorite tropes, two characters who look alike.  And check:  of course, murder. Add to all of this that that there is some history as well.  These elements taken together, lead to a very enjoyable read.  If you like cozies, consider this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.  All opinions are my own.

Now out: Why Do We Cry? by Fran Pintadera

This picture book beautifully normalizes the reasons why children (and adults) may cry. It passes no judgment and does not belittle. Rather, some of the many reasons for tears are described; these include anger, sadness and happiness among others. Crying is seen as a normal response to being human. At the end of the book, there is additional information, some of it scientific, about tears. The book is sensitively illustrated with gorgeous pictures that enhance the text. This would be a great title to share with a child you know.

Hop aboard: Bunnies on the Bus by Philip Ardagh

This book should delight toddlers and preschoolers.  With vivid, highly detailed illustrations and rhyming text (along with repetition), it reads quickly.  Young children will enjoy their chaotic journey on this bus…and what happens at the end?  Read this one to find out.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

All About Weather A First Weather Book for Kids by Huda Harajli, MA

This book provides a delightful introduction to weather for young children.  The illustrations are cheerful and filled with smiles; they are also very inclusive as they picture the children learning about the weather.

This book includes a lot of information that is presented clearly and simply.  Young children will learn about daily weather, seasons, wind, cloud types, rain, snow and much more.

This book belongs in pre-schools and homes.  Maybe it will encourage some future scientists and meteorologists!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

From the publisher:

Pony on the Twelfth Floor by Polly Faber

This book will be a fairy tale come true for its intended audience.  Many kids go through a “horse crazy” phase.  That has clearly been the experience of Kezzy in this chapter book with illustrations.  Imagine her amazement and delight when she sees a horse eating donuts in the grocery store…and even better, there is no owner in sight.  So, you can guess what Kezzy does.

Young chapter book readers who are fond of ponies will very much enjoy seeing what happens next.  They will most likely be turning the pages rapidly until they reach the very end.  What will the reader think of what happens to Donut the pony?  Hopefully, they will agree with the ending after having followed the story to get there.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title  All opinions are my own.

Let’s explore: Jungle Adventure by Lily Murray

I recently read and reviewed this author’s Pirate Adventure which I highly recommended.  This is another entry, in what appears to be a series, that will engage a child while encouraging them to use their imagination.  This time the adventure is in the jungle where life can be pretty exciting.

This book has vibrant and engaging illustrations.  To give you a flavor, the book begins with choosing the character the child wants to be; that is followed by the clothes the reader wants to wear. Children can then choose why they want to go on the advenure and what they will need to bring.  And so it goes from there through this enchanting title until the reader gets to the end.

The book can be read multiple time with different choices being made on each occasion. Look at this title with a child you know.  I think that you will both enjoy the experience.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
