What leads to the: Final Cut by SJ Watson

I loved this author’s first book, Before I Go to Sleep. It was suspenseful and the pages just kept turning. I was excited to receive an e galley of this title even though I did not read it right away.

This novel is set in a seaside town that has fallen on hard times. Nonetheless, documentary film maker, Alex, has chosen to shoot a film here. Why this location? What will she discover in Blackwood Bay? Does she have a former connection with this place? Pick this one up to find out.

In my opinion, this book was okay. It was not as good as Before I Go to Sleep though.

Carolyn Brown knows how to write women’s fiction that readers enjoy. Here she uses the familiar device of following of three characters lives and how they intersect with one another, in this case, though their shared ownership of a business.

Readers get to know Grace, Sarah and Macy. Each has a life with some issues. For example, Grace is trying to decipher coping with a teenager while Macy is planning her wedding. And, what is happening with Sarah and the doughnut shop itself? Read this one to find out.

While there is nothing that makes this title truly outstanding it does offer readers a comfortable and easy read. Those who enjoy family stories may want to take a look at this one.

Who are: A Few Right Thinking Men

by Sulari Gentill

Here is the very first title in the wonderful Rowley Sinclair mystery series. It is sure to be enjoyed by historical mystery fans who will want to go on to read all of the others. Luckily, there will be at least nine more for readers to devour.

Rowly doesn’t quite fit in with the expectations of his aristocratic family in 1930s Australia. His mother confuses him with a son who died. He has friends who are communists, poets and artists, clearly not like his brother Wilf’s friends.

When Rowly’s uncle, also named Rowly, is killed it is up to our Rowly to figure out what happened and why. Readers will enjoy following the clues with him.

If readers don’t already know this series, they are lucky as they have some good stories ahead.

A Perfect Title for the new year: Year of Wonder by Clemency Burton-Hill

This is a wonderful book for anyone interested in exploring classical (or what is often called Western) music. This title contains one entry for each day of the year. The reader is told something about a piece of music and its composer. A piece to listen to is then suggested. By the end of the year, readers will have learned about many pieces in a delightful way. Note that Spotify has a playlist for this title so it is very easy to access the music. Highly recommended. I started today with Bach and am eager for tomorrow’s piece. I hope to continue all year.
