This book will be enjoyed by those who have a romantic way of looking at the world. On a snowy winter night, Noelle and Sam meet. They spend those “eight perfect hours” together. What will happen to them after this? Will they have their happy ever after? Readers will surely hope so.
This book’s cover is sweet and indicative of the nice story inside, although there are some mental health issues noted in these pages. Read this book on a hot summer day when you might appreciate the idea of a winter’s cold and two warm hearts.

This helpfully illustrated book has loads of origami projects inside. Fold a penguin, a roosting robin, a chick or a dog, crane or sea lion and more. Buy some pretty paper, follow the directions and enjoy the results.
Follow the instructions in the blue boxes to know what to do. Also know that there is information on where to find the author in an on line video for additional help. She does everything possible to ensure success although it still looks pretty tricky to me.
If you have ever wanted to try origami, this book will help you to do so. Hope it goes well.
I have previously recommended other titles in this series of Sherlock Holmes retellings. These books are perfect for beginning chapter book readers and offer a good introduction to Conan Doyle’s tales. Hopefully, some children will then be inspired to read the originals.
This time, young sleuths will enjoy A Study in Scarlet. What is the significance of the color? Why is a ring next to a body? What does of a group of letters spelling RACHE mean? What else will Holmes and Watson discover as they try to unravel the case? Put on your deerstalker and find out!

Having recently read the first two titles in this series, I was eager to spend more time with Ben(edicta). She is a solicitor in a small town on the Inishowen Peninsula in Ireland; her work brings her into contact with many in her community so the series features a number of recurring characters. One of these is a police officer to whom Ben becomes close. There is also a backstory having to do with the death of Ben’s sister.
This time, as usual, a lot is going on. Who set fire to The Oak, the village’s pub and where is the woman who worked behind the bar? And then, of course (no surprise), there is a body.
Come to Inishowen during the Christmas season. Catch up with the regulars and solve the case. I am glad that I did. I will soon be on to book four in the series, Murder at Greysbridge.

Amanda in France is the ninth book in a series for kids but the first that I read. In this title, Amanda, her best friend, Leah, and Leah’s Aunt Jenny travel to Paris and its environs. They have made an arrangement to work at Shakespeare and Co. for a few hours each day in return for a dorm room in which to stay.
It happens that the fire at Notre Dame happens in the course of the story and there is a plot about what might have caused this. There are other strange goings on as well including a rather mysterious gentleman who is omnipresent. What is happening? Amanda wants to know and so will readers.
In addition to telling a story about the characters, this novel serves as a travelogue. Many of the major Parisian sites are visited, everything from the Louvre to Musee d’Orsay, to Notre Dame, the Opera, Versailles and many more well known venues. I enjoyed the armchair travel and now know a good place to go for a sweet snack with a view of Notre Dame and that I want to see the ceiling of Galleries Lafayette on my next trip.
Children who are fascinated by travel or those whose worlds an adult wants to open up, could do well to pick up this title as well as others in the series. Just a few of the other places which Amanda visits are Malta, England and Holland. When I was about ten, I think that I would have adored this series.

This is an absolutely delightful picture book. The illustrations are bright, fanciful and most engaging. The rhyming text should delight the youngest readers as they learn about a young hair stylist. Just adorable!
