Commuting can be dangerous: Confessions on the 7:45

A Novel

by Lisa Unger

This is the first title by this author for me and I do not think that it will be my last. Confessions on the 7:45 is a taut thriller that unfolds in ways not always expected. What if Selena had gotten her usual train home? What if she had not talked to Martha on the train? What if Selena’s husband was not at home with the nanny? Well…then we would not have this engrossing story.

This title is being compared to Strangers on a Train. That may be but it tells is own atmospheric and suspenseful tale. I recommend it and suggest that you have time when you start the book as you may want to read it in one sitting.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

People who help us: At The Hospital

This is a short book about those who work in the hospital. With its vivid pictures and rhyming text it provides a quick look at some hospital workers. While not extensive, this book provides a nice, un-scary view of a hospital and can help a child to see some of what happens there.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

It is almost December so January is not far behind. We are fast approaching the time of year when people make resolutions. If one of yours might be to take time for a quick prayer and a contemplative moment each day, this book could be just the thing. There is a short entry for every day of the year and each is meant to provide a moment of reflection and thoughtfulness. The book is a Christian title but I think it could be read by those of other faiths as well.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Love is Love

The Journey Continues

Just by happenstance, I chose to read this gorgeously illustrated children’s book today. It is my anniversary and I adored spending time with this beautiful celebration of the love of two women. Their goal was to marry in every country that allowed for same sex marriage. So, children will travel the world and see the dress and customs for many wedding ceremonies.

When many children have parents of the same sex and when many also identify as gay, this book is such a welcome resource. I really loved it .

SPOILER ALERT: Just be ready when you read about the authors.

Who died and why? Death at a Country Mansion

A Smart British Mystery with a Surprising Twist

by Louise R. Innes

#DeathataCountryMansion #NetGalley

I tend to enjoy mysteries set in England. Sometimes I am looking for something by Ann Cleeves or Anne Perry or Susie Steiner or Peter Lovesey. Other times, I am looking for a more cozy mystery, the sort that offers a relaxing read for a troubling time. This title suits that latter category.

This is the first in what I think will be a new series. It is set in a small British town and features an amateur detective who in her more regular life is a hair stylist. She heeds to call to solve the case of her best friend’s mother, a well known opera star, who is murdered.

This book has interesting characters, murder, an art thief and a bit of romance. Definitely just what the cozy reader craves!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
