Some people avoid reading Henry James; his books require concentration and a bit of effort. Of course, on the other side, the rewards are also great. My favorite novels by this author are Portrait of a Lady and The Golden Bowl. The Bostonians is also a good read. Give it a try and let me know what you discover,

  1. I love Henry James ans I loved this book too. This is an interesting view on the feminist movement in the 19th century. I had some difficulties to find out where James really stood on this question though. He is actually criticizing both Olive’s feminism and Basil’s conservatism. It seems live Verena, whether she chooses to follow Olive or Basil, can only do a wrong choice.
