What will be in the Postscript (by Cecelia Ahearn)

The many readers who loved Ahearn’s P.S. I Love You will, I think, be delighted to read this sequel. It brings back the grieving widow from that book. Now, her sister has asked Holly to revisit Gerry’s letters to her on a podcast. This brings many new people into Holly’s world even as old feelings and emotions rise to the surface. Readers will root for Holly as she continues to grow, help and influence others. All in all, a nice read and an emotional one.

Now out: Growing Up Powerful

The text on the cover lets readers know what will be found inside. This is a guide to “keeping confident when your body is changing, your mind is racing and the world is…complicated.” Here is a tall order but the Rebel Girls are as ever able to help.

There are chapters in this title on the brain, the body, being a valuable person in one’s family, the strength in connection and, hope for making the world a better place. There are also additional resources and sections on the book’s creators and experts.

To give a better sense of the book’s contents, the brain chapter has, among other things, a quiz asking about perfectionism and entries on stress, the blues and loss. Readers are told that therapy can help. The chapter ends with an ask the experts section. Each additional chapter is equally well set out.

This is a terrific resource for girls of ages roughly 8 to 14. Buy it for kids that you know. They will thank you! I give it my very highest recommendation.

Beware: A Treacherous Tale (by Elizabeth Penney)

I enjoy cozy mysteries although they are not my only reading. I find that these titles often have good characters and plots, along with an absence of overt violence. Just the thing for when life is stressful. In addition, this book’s cover stated that it was “A Cambridge Bookshop Mystery” and I love stories that have bookshops in them; I looked forward to reading this title and enjoyed this second in the series.

Molly’s relative’s bookshop is in Cambridge, England (not Massachusetts). She enjoys her life there and is thrilled to find that the author of a favorite book lives nearby. But, there is trouble ahead for Iona, author of The Strawberry Girls. A daughter has gone missing, someone is murdered and it is not clear what Iona’s spouse’s death (years ago) may have to do with this.

Readers are given a mystery that is intriguing and fun to read. They also get a bit of romance.

I look forward to reading the third book in this series. It is due out this October.
