A Mystery Author’s Inspirational Place: Aix-en-Provence — CrimeReads

When we moved to Aix-en-Provence in 1997 it was a sleepy provincial town. You could park your car on the Cours Mirabeau, which at that time still had some mom-and-pop shops. Nowadays, only international chain stores can afford the rent on one of France’s most beloved main streets, and the obligatory underground parking garages can…

A Nice Cup of Tea

by Celia Imrie

#AniceCupOfTea #NetGalley
know Celia Imrie as an actress and she is one of my favorites. What fun to discover that she is also a fiction writer.

I really enjoyed this book. It is actually the third of a series and I will go back to read the others.

This title fits with the trend of books with older protagonists, think for example of Richard Osman’s series. Here are five retired ex-pats, men and women, who are trying to run a restaurant in a beautiful French location. Of course, things do not go well. Readers will find food, friendship and mystery here. Perfect for a relaxing read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury USA for this title. All opinions are my own.

Be careful before going: Down a Dark River by Karen Odden

#DownaDarkRiver #NetGalley

Here is the first title in the author’s series. The second published title is f Under a Veiled Moon. These books feature Inspector Corravan.

This historical mystery set in Britain will be enjoyed by fans of authors like Anne Perry. It is atmospheric and involving. Inspector Corravan is an interesting character with a backstory.

A young girl’s body is found floating down the river of the title. She is the daughter of a judge. Who has murdered her and why? Is it to do with her prominent father? How does a Mrs. Beckford fit in? Additional victims add to the complexity of the case.

This book is just the type that I enjoy when reading an historical mystery. I look forward to the next in the series. It will be out soon.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this title. All opinions are my own.

Live your life: Aging Gracefully for Women Over 50

Dr. Steve’s Guide to Help Reverse Aging, Disease, Weight Gain and Energy Lost

by Dr. Steve Kringold

#AgingGracefullyforWomenOver50 #NetGalley

This book is subtitled Dr. Steve’s guide to help reverse aging disease, weight gain, and energy lost. This sounds quite ambitious to me so I was very curious to discover what these pages held.

This book covers a great deal. There are sections on food and diet, physical health, sleep, lifestyle changes, preventing illness and even one of finding happiness through gratitude. The book ends with a section on the secrets of anti-aging. Included here are tips on everything from dress to sunscreen.

Read this book in order or dip in wherever you are most focused. There is a lot of information here.

One thing that I liked was the author’s positive attitude toward some aspects of aging. This is encapsulated in his comment on the word “growing” in the phrase “growing older.”

I did find it interesting that a title on women and aging was written by a male doctor. He obviously can’t know exactly what it feels like to be a woman of whatever age. Nonetheless, I feel that this book is worth a look. There is much to think about here and lots of practical suggestions.

Many thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this title. All opinions are my own.

by Dawn Huebner

#FacingMightyFearsAboutAnimals #NetGalley

Fear of animals can be so debilitating for kids. In extreme form, it may even keep them from wanting to be outside.

Well, it is surely accepted wisdom that talking about fears is one proven way to diminish them. So, those who know a child who fears animals, may want to gently read this book with them.

The author does a good job of helping kids to move forward. Included in this title are many facts about animals. There are also suggestions about ways to cope with anxiety. In addition there is a fine section for adults at the end of the book.

This title offers much to the fearful child and their caregiver. It is a useful resource for therapists as well.
